Artist Statement
In my work, I explore concepts about my interpersonal and external relationships in an attempt to process my experiences. I investigate the physical and psychological interactions of color, saturation, shape, line, and value to use as tools to visually communicate my feelings about my experience.
My paintings are rooted in abstraction where each shape, color shift and texture become a moment within a greater context. My works are greatly influenced by my animated process of painting. Flowing, colorful organic shapes and lines dance around the canvas merging, intersecting, and colliding with each other to create continuous movement that has no beginning or end. My choice of color pallet is largely dependent on my environment and mood and heavily influences the works’ atmosphere. The compositions are defined by a push and pull of vast spaces of subtle color shifts and compact, crowded details that interact simultaneously helping to establish a specific energy.
While I make art to process my experiences and emotions, I seek to create a visually immersive experience that carves out space for viewers to engage in their own internal dialog.
